We only stayed one night, but wish we could’ve stayed longer! Eva was so helpful in getting us settled in, setting up a taxi to the airport, truly amazing hospitality. It’s a beautiful building with great views of the harbour. Can’t beat the location either!

Quaint and lovely!
This amazing quaint hotel on the waterfront was just what we needed! A welcome surprise for first-time visitors to Chania. It had a lovely historic feel with alcoves, patios, windows, and beautiful views. The breakfast was delicious and the room was tidy and spacious and quiet. Decorations were reminiscent of an old villa. And the staff were so attentive and lovely! Highly recommend!

Amazing location, looking over the lighthouse and harbour. The owner is fantastic and very helpful. Parking in the area can be tricky; Talos square is often full so you need to park on the street. Breakfast is absolutely delicious and filling. I highly recommend.

If I could give 10 stars, instead of just 5, I would! Eva, Nicos, and all the gals were so accommodating and amazingly helpful and generous. We got very spoiled by all of them, especially Eva! We stayed in the smallest room they have but it worked great. You have to be prepared going in that it is very small. Smaller than most US hotel rooms. But the view of the lighthouse, sea, and museum grounds made it so worth it. We loved it and it didn't bother us at all. We got to know many of the staff and other couples and realized that this location is the best in old town. Right as you enter the harbor/port, so easy access to everything in and out of the port area, especially Nea Chora beach, shopping and restaurants just steps away. The food was amazing and tried most of the hotel suggested restaurants and they were all very very good. Mostly outdoor dining with no bugs. Perfect! Besides the hotel and all the staff my favorite part of the trip was meeting the locals in the villages. Some were real characters and the food was authentic and delicious! Try the goat! I LOVED it! I recommend going in early to mid June. That is when we were there for 9 days. Then is before the big season rush and the weather was perfect. Around the mid 80's F and no humidity so perfect for about anything you want to do from beach to shopping. If you can afford longer I suggest 11 or 12 days. I could go on on on...

This was one of the coolest hotels we have stayed in. It is a 500 year old castle. The rooms are huge, with very comfortable beds and the best rain shower. The staff are so friendly and accommodating to all your needs. They also give you a traditional Greek breakfast in the morning. The location was perfect with fun shops, restaurants and the beach.

We checked out early, the next morning due to unacceptable conditions and unprofessional treatment at Alcanea Boutique Hotel.
Our room was extremely small, barely larger than a walk-in closet, we had to turn sideways to move around. The hygiene was even worse: large amounts of long black hair were stuck to the shower walls, and the sheets smelled strongly of mildew, making them unusable. My wife had to use her shawl to drape over her because the sheets smelled bad.
When we brought this to the manager’s attention, she denied responsibility and rudely implied we planted the hair ourselves, which was both offensive and unprofessional.
We do not recommend this hotel.

4 night stay in late March/Early April. Beautiful location on the harbor. Great atmosphere. Felt extremely safe. Eva was very welcoming and room was lovely. Parking is nearby and is free, and an easy walk with roller bags. Would definitely return and our visit wasn’t nearly long enough.

This place doesn't have a front desk, reception etc.
So noisy and scary...we were by ourselves in the house and we didn't feel safe.

We absolutely loved this hotel. The location is perfect in Old town Chania. We had a beautiful view of the lighthouse from our room. It is on the end away from most of the noise. The room (4), building, were beautiful. The breakfast was delicious, service was great. We also enjoyed a glass of wine at night too. Ava was delightful and so welcoming!!!! If you are okay with stairs you have to stay here. Remember its a 500 plus year old building. Its not perfect and not American ADA compliant.

This cute hotel is in a perfect location in the beautiful harbor. Having a café on the first floor, lots of restaurants and shopping close by, a beach within less than 20 min walking, it was perfect! The staff went above and beyond to make us comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.

Very convenient place, overlooking the water, and the manager is super nice. I think her father owned the property. The rooms are small, the standard ones, but they will do. The breakfast is good, but can get busy with one person doing all the serving since no burette. Also, I wish breakfast could start earlier.

Excellent accommodations! Very nice staff who were extremely hospitable. The only issue I had was the parking situation. They state there is parking available but it’s street parking which is available to everyone, not just the hotel. This is a major issue and they need to change this on their services on the App.

The Alcanea hotel is a most unique property. It is decorated in a way that emphasizes the 500 year old fortress it is a part of. The bed was amazingly comfortable, with lovely bedding.
It is situated perfectly with wonderful views, and great walks.
The breakfasts were delicious! We enjoyed the Cretan foods.
The staff are very kind! Eva always had time to chat and give us ideas of where to go and what to do. Georgia served us breakfast every morning. We enjoyed her very much. Our cleaning lady, was also a gem!
We will plan to go back again! Enjoyed every minute!!

The check-in with Eva was excellent! She is friendly and very knowledgeable about the area and restaurant recommendations. We dined at all of the suggested places with a harbor view. The historical sites, shops and restaurants were all walkable.

Beautiful 16th century villa overlooking the port!
Loved the hotel! Excellent location on the quiet end of the Ventian port. Beautiful view over the bay. Feels like staying in a small castle, beautiful decor with modern twist. Staff so friendly, offers many of their personal favorites for restaurants and bars. Breakfast is fabulous! Best eggs I have ever had (Chef said the secret is in the fresh olive lol…), 5 stars and can’t wait to visit again. Thank you

Beyond outstanding
We absolutely loved the Alcanea Boutique Hotel! It is located toward the end of the harbor in Old Town, a perfect location from which to explore the charming area. Our hosts, Nikos and Eva, were most welcoming. Our room was nothing short of spectacular--spacious and beautifully decorated. Comfy bed, wonderful shower, amazing view. The breakfast, too, was outstanding. There really aren't enough stars to indicate how wonderful this place is. Needless to say, the Alcanea is highly recommended!

Staying inside a 500 year old historical building is an experience of its own! High 4-5 meter ceilings, beautiful views. Furnished with taste, and you get normal Wi-Fi and modern comfort including AC. Eva and Petros were very welcoming and eager to please, even at low season they were just a call away. Breakfast served at the table in an outdoor cafe. Beware there is no lift here if you have problems with steps. Free parking within a few minutes walk.

Our room was charming and wonderful with high ceilings and a balcony with a great view. Eva was very sweet and attentive. The location is perfect being just at the end of the harbor so it’s easy to walk to all the great sights but not right in the middle of the noisy parts. Breakfast was good. The only bad thing was parking. GPS navigation sent us to dead end streets. Eva had emailed me instructions on where to park but my cell phone died so were using my husbands. We called and she recommended one spot but the lot was full so we ended up parking at another spot which was a 10 minute walk away. Not a big deal but hard to do lugging our luggage.

This is a good location to be in for the historic district. And the inn is quiet which was great. Also they included a delicious breakfast and the service was very good. However, our room was crazy small and the sheets on the bed were like newspaper. The air conditioning worked well so that was helpful. But the mattress was not good and they really should use better/softer bedding. The bathroom was quite nice and I liked their shampoos and soaps. But there was a bad smell in the room — not sure what it was. I would not stay here again but I also did not like the historic district as it is full of tourists and tourist restaurants with terrible and expensive food. (The breakfast at hotel was excellent)

Service above and beyond.
A 500 year old building does have its limits but the Alcanea is well worth the effort. The staff went above and beyond to make us comfortable. The breakfast was tasty and served with a smile. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. The only minor complaint is the hot water was very patchy and the stairs are very steep. That isn’t surprising with the age of the building. A perfect place from which to explore Chania.

A fantastic building in a fantastic location. Expertly restored, great amenities. We stayed on the top floor - the view of the Venetian Harbor from the balcony Is very hard to beat anywhere in the world for this price. Breakfasts are sumptuous. Aliki and Eva answered promptly all of our questions and we had a lot. Don’t worry that you can’t drive up to the hotel door: we rented a car and were always able to find a parking spot nearby.

Eva is a star
We stayed in room VI, upstairs. Several flights (so take note if thats not for you), but absolutely worth it. The room was spacious, bright, and has a nice bathroom (except...if you are tall you will need to sit sideways on the toilet).
Eva checked us in and took care of us. She couldn't have been nicer or more helful. Also, the breakfast was lovely, outside in their courtyard-like area facing the water.

Lovely Hotel in fantastic location
The Alcanea hotel is lovely. The location is great. It is off the water in the Old Port area. It is close to restaurants, shops, and museums.
The staff is excellent. Eva is delightful, helpful and made our stay special. Our room was comfortable, though the bed a little hard for our taste. The breakfast is fantastic. I recommend the traditional pies. Everything we tried was delicious. The hotel is over 400 years old and is in excellent condition with modern amenitites. I highly recommend it.

The breakfast was amazing! Fresh juice, fresh yogurt and honey, coffee brought to table, many options. The only small downfall was the laid back front desk when checking me out (taking his time), and the pool. The pool was tiny compared to pictures and needed a good filter, but we did swim! The bathroom was superb and AC worked great. TV a bit small, but you don’t need TV on vacation that much. Very quick walk to the beach (5minutes). Next time, I probably wouldn’t stay here just because the boutique hotels were so nice, but if I did, I would just check out earlier than I needed to. The staff is super friendly, just not in the rush Americans are used to. That is not their problem.

Byzantine flavor
The best possible stay in Crete. Very charming boutique hotel , Clean and spacious rooms, orientally decorated with good taste, You feel taken back in time in the Ottoman Empire. The best view of the harbor you can enjoy while having your breakfast at their front door café. The most wonderful ,friendly and accommodating staff Eva and Elaine.
We would not stay anywhere else on our next trip to Crete. Great job thank you very much.

Beautiful B&B in the heart of Chania
I can’t say enough about this hotel and staff. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a perfect location in the heart of Old Chania Town next to the Maritime Museum. The room we had was one of the smaller ones but perfect for what we needed. They helped us find an agency to book our Samaria Gourge trip and recommended several excellent restaurants. A great Chania experience, we will return.

There was a beautiful patio garden area you could relax that added to the charm of the hotel even more. The breakfast in the morning was fresh, delicious, and a great way to start the day. Our FAVORITE part of the hotel was Eva in the reception office. Due to our ferry being delayed we arrived later than expected and after reception was to be closed for the evening. Eva waited for us and greeted us with so much enthusiasm and friendliness it turned our attitudes right around. She gave us so many fantastic and delicious suggestions of where to eat, what to see, and how to get around, even calling places for us for accommodations. We have never had such a pleasant experience working with someone at a hotel and appreciated Eva so much!!!

Loved it!
The Alcanea is the perfect mix of new and old. Situated in an ideal location right on the water, yet still tucked away from the crowds, we were able to come and go as we pleased. Though the main waterfront attracts the majority of tourists, taking a few steps back from the water will reveal a labyrinth of local shops and restaurants close by. The staff was exceptionally accommodating helping us with the reservation and selecting a memorable local wine which was delivered to our doorstep. Breakfast was a treat as well and included with the room. We ate outside on the patio and enjoyed a spread of delicious local foods and drinks. All in all, I we are ever in Crete again, I will be staying at the Alcanea.

Excellent hotel at the end of the old port
During our three weeks in Greece, the Alcanea Boutique Hotel was our favorite of the eight places we stayed. The truly caring staff, the beautiful old building with updated modern conveniences, and the location made it remarkable. The room was clean and quiet, air conditioned, with a fridge, large bathroom and wonderful shower. Our hosts made sure we had everything we needed and helpful suggestions for places to visit and dine. The breakfast was excellent, with cappuccino, fresh orange juice, a wide selection of breakfast items and Greek specialties. We left our bags for an overnight excursion to hike the Samaria Gorge, and were greeted like old friends when we came back to retrieve them. I can't say enough good things about this hotel; book it if you can!

Perfection down to the smallest detail!
From the amazing service to the amazing room to the incredible breakfast and amenities (they stock your fridge with free beverages). This boutique has it all and is pure luxury. I felt like a favored relative and not a stranger. They even made sure to wait up for me since I was potentially getting in after 11pm and when the front desk was going to be closed. My room was number (3) and perfect for me and my needs. My windows opened up directly to the harbor and the lighthouse. The location is perfect because it is on the Venetian harbor but tucked away by the museum and corner of the harbor so it was peaceful but close to shopping and restaurants. Everyone was so friendly and kind that I wish I could have stayed longer. If you are visiting Chania, you MUST stay here! It was beyond my expectations.
