Took me back 47 years as this was the very first hotel I I worked in as a trainee hotel manager
Breakfast Excellant . Bistro staff inexperienced
Bistro staff MUST stop referring to customers as “guys” or “folks”. Use there names or sir or madam

Good overall stay
One small point no tongs at breakfast bar to pick up bread for toaster.

Location, food, staff.
Shower needed updating, towel rail didn't work.
09.07.2026
Very relaxed enjoyable stay, the view of the Tweed was lovely.
Breakfast was very good, great choice and quick service. Nice friendly staff. Lovely setting!,
Nobody came into our room to check our supply of teas and coffee or to see if the bins needed emptying.

Grand looking hotel
The location was great. Very quiet and peaceful.
A little bit old fashioned.
09.07.2026
Relaxing
The room was spacious as was the bathroom. Food very good.
It was just a wee bit tired but good value so not pretending to be fresh and contemporary.
09.07.2026
I love the view from the window
220 was very dusty and quite shabby in place. no pillow protectors on pillows had to waIt till 8pm for. dinner table even though dinning room was fairly empty

Excellent place to stay. Great staff
Friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful location. Good food.
Prices a little high

In need of refreshment
We have stayed here many times over the years and it is now apparent that no obvious work has been carried out to keep on top of its aging. As others have mentioned it being an old building the sound proofing could be better.
The hotel is in an ideal location on the banks of the River Tweed. The rooms are generously sized with many having a good outlook.
Unfortunately we found the catering standard to be poor with a limited continental breakfast selection which was not regularly restocked. Evening meals were to a fair standard.

Great stopping off spot in the borders
Beautiful spot. Friendly staff. Good value for money. I’ll definitely be back
Noisy upstairs neighbour!!
08.07.2026
great location, dog friendly country house on the river Tweed
Breakfast was tasty and plenty of selection, staff very polite and helpful, large room great view over river Tweed with 4 poster bed, great location and local walking leaflet was very useful
Mattress needs replacing as individual springs could be felt easily leading too a poor nights sleep, bar was lacking in atmosphere
08.07.2026
A convenient overnight stop but would not use for longer stays.
A spacious comfortable room. set in a pleasant location right by the river with the picturesque Dryburgh Abbey ruins adjacent.
Dinner was OK but breakfast was not overly plentiful. We have had better in B&Bs at just over half the cost.
08.07.2026
Staff very friendly, great for dogs, meal in Tweed Bar at night lovely.
Terrible terrible cooked breakfast, tasteless, dry bacon and mushrooms, toast put out was cold! Very disappointing when looking forward to it.
07.07.2026
Position of the hotel.
All good.
07.07.2026
Lovely location and hotel. Great views with spacious accommodation and warm friendly staff. TY.
Great welcome and lovely room with great views of the Tweed. Food was excellent all round. Greta stop over for us.
07.07.2026
Decent hotel can’t fault it.
We had a good stay at the hotel for 3 nights, can’t fault the staff were all very friendly and helpful, upon arrival we were early and unable to check in the receptionist gave us information on local walks and sights to kill time which was very helpful and the food was great!.
The room decor is a bit dated tho didn’t negatively ruin our stay just an observation.
The only issue we found was it got very loud throughout the night with doors banging and what we assume was slamming against the walls in the corridor.
Other than that was a good stay and would recommend for a short visit.
06.07.2026
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and comfortable. The meals were delicious.
06.07.2026
Lovely relaxing stay with our parents.
Great location, quiet and peaceful, beautiful surroundings.
Very friendly and accommodating staff.
Lovely food at dinner and breakfast.
Maybe if some of the restaurant and breakfast room could be a pet free area.
Otherwise nothing negative.
06.07.2026
We had a lovely spacious room. The breakfast was delicious and we also had dinner which was very good.
Nothing. It was very good

Great location full of character lovely looking building
04.07.2026
Lovely staff, beautiful old building in stunning setting,
We had a sandwich in the afternoon in the bar/bistro it was delicious, we then had evening meals which were very good also
The room was a little smaller than expected, the bathroom had a white nylon shower curtain very old world they never look clean, the liquid bottle in the shower didn’t state what it was ie shampoo, body wash etc. 1 pack of biscuits between two!
03.07.2026
Disappointing
The hotel looked very tired all needed updating
03.07.2026
The hotel provided in ideal base for exploring the Borders but did not come up to expectations.
Setting is excellent and the meals were acceptable but limited in choice. Bar service was good.
The rooms were not too clean, with dated fittings and the daily room service was only available on request. The buffet breakfast was always short of supply of certain items and the selected food had to be carried through two rooms back to the table.. No fresh bread or rolls available.

A happy and memorable holiday.
I went with a group of 51 people on a coach tour of the Scottish Borders. We were given a very warm welcome on arrival by Katie Wallace who was responsible for organising our group for our three night stay. Katie was outstanding in her efficiency and kindness, thinking of everything to make us comfortable and well catered for. We had a perfect holiday thanks to Katie and her staff who went above and beyond the call of duty to meet our every need. Our meals were first class with excellent and varied menus to choose from. I commend Petra, the Chef who cooked our delicious meals to perfection. All the staff we engaged with were courteous, cheerful and most helpful. We enjoyed the beautiful location of the Hotel and the comfortable rooms.
All in all it was a memorable holiday for all the right reasons and many of us would like to return. A

Beautiful setting and historic building, but an uncomfortable bed and a poorly located room made for a disappointing sta
The hotel itself is beautiful and the location is lovely.
However, the room was disappointing. We were given a room tucked away by the kitchen/service stairs, and the bed was extremely uncomfortable. Unfortunately, both of us woke up with back pain after just one night. A comfortable night’s sleep is the most important part of a hotel stay, so this had a big impact on our overall experience.
30.06.2026
A lovely relaxing break in a dog friendly hotel in a superb, quiet rural location
We were welcomed with our dog by friendly staff in a beautiful old building with a relaxed atmosphere and in a superb rural location. The bedroom was very comfortable and quite spacious. It was very easy to come and go on foot and enjoy the river and the local paths.
Breakfast was good but mundane in comparison with the rest of the experience.
29.06.2026
The location
Standard of service has dropped significantly especially in the restaurant and breakfast dining room but prices have not.
28.06.2026
Super location, and very dog friendly
27.06.2026
Exceeded our expectations: the young staff were polite and helpful and not spending time on their phones as we’ve found
It had character architecturally, good facilities such as a reading room, and a fantastic location

Makes for a fantastic relaxing break
Lovely place within a picturesque setting, if you've not been you need to visit, we stayed for the weekend from 19th June , the hotel is a great place to have a nice relaxing break , nice decor inside with spacious rooms , we had a large room with an equally large bathroom on the first floor looking out towards the abbey, slightly difficult to see the abbey due to the trees on the boundary but the view takes in the grounds of the hotel and the river tweed . We were bed and breakfast , breakfast was nice with plenty of choice from the full breakfast , veggie breakfast, eggs Benedict and breakfast rolls, also lots of cereal, fruit and pastries.all the staff were friendly, one member of staff stood out for us as a great asset to the hotel, he was on breakfast duty on the Sunday morning , we never got his name but we saw him on Friday night in the nearby pub the dryburgh arms, so polite with all the breakfast guests.
Food in the restaurant is also great so be sure to try it. You won't regret it.
We will definitely be back in the near future.

Good in parts
The location was wonderful.
Lovely view of river from room. Comfy bed.
Lovely serving staff.
The receptionist was very unwelcoming and gave a bad first impression.
Bathroom was very basic.
Poor ingredients at breakfast.
Awful coffee.

19.06.2026
Staff were great, the hotel is a beautiful building but it’s very tired inside and food average
Staff were very helpful
Very tired
19.06.2026
Most of it was fine and the evening meal was lovely. I
My only mild criticism was the breakfast , which I would a say wasn’t quite up to standard
As above. The continental breakfast in particular went very good. But it is a minor criticism.
17.06.2026
I would sum up the facilities in one word-Tired
Location and history
It needs an upgrade
16.06.2026
Enjoyable stay, but a walk in shower in the bathroom would have been great.
Breakfast and dinner were enjoyable and the staff were very good and pleasant, we payed for a larger room and it was and the views are very pleasing. The bed was lovely and clean and comfortable.
The bathroom had nowhere to put our toiletries and the bath with the shower is not very accessible to elderly guests. The tea making cabinet is still the same as it was years ago when we stayed and is still rather unsafe and needs updating. The tall girl on reception could have been more welcoming being the first contact with the hotel, however all the other staff were wonderful.
16.06.2026
Excellent b- will recommend to anyone!
Location, setting, food, room, facilities, local walks etc all excellent
Nothing of note
16.06.2026
excellent!!
service. Friendliness of staff. Quality of food
would have preferred a room on ground floor
16.06.2026
The most wonderful stay of our trip.
LOVED it.
From the moment we walked in we felt special. The young ladies at the desk were charming and efficient.
It's easy to find and the location is superb right next to the beautiful Dryburgh abbey ruins and the River Tweed.
The parking is ample, right at the hotel.
It's not on the road, so it's quiet as a mouse, except for beautiful sounds of nature.
An enchanting building with ample history. Scottish style with turrets and the local red sandstone. Gorgeous!
The room we stayed in may have been the best in the house - the Tweed room, for the view of the river, top floor. It was stunning. Spacious, with an amazing view and amply provided for.
If you're looking for all the mod cons - fridges, safes, etc, you may be disappointed, if you're after character, charm, excellence, comfort and a view - a true Scottish hospitality experience, you'll be delighted. Soem people are never happy. Most hotels don't even come close to the beauty of this one. Not everything is painted perfectly, nor every hinge in place, but if you want that, go and stay at a dodgy Best Western. This is Scotland, and this buiding is historic. It's elegant and we loved it.
The bar and seating area for the restaurant was gorgeous, there is also a cocktail room where we enjoyed pre dinner drinks. The bar staff were delightful, everyone so friendly. We felt so welcome and comfortable.
Every window opens onto a lovely vista. We were lucky with the weather.
We ambled down to the beautiful river, gorgeous.
of course we visited the ruins as well, spending 2 hours there on the lovely grounds.
Dinner had been booked and we enjoyed a wonderful meal. On time, delicious, and plentiful. Beer great.
The bed was divine, and the seating in the room very welcome. It was just a lovely visit all around,w ith helpful staff, and a glorious atmosphere, full of Scottish decor and tradition.
Thankyou for our stay.

A set from Outlander!
Beautiful Scottish hotel situated in grand grounds right next to the river Tweed. It was like walking in to a Scottish TV program - something like Outlander or Braveheart. Staff are warm and friendly and this is what sets this hotel apart from others on our trip. Big friendly chap on reception that was extremely helpful and waiting staff that would do anything for you - genuinely interested in what you were doing in the area.

Delightful, old-fashioned hotel with lovely rooms in splendid grounds, and a good restaurant.
15.06.2026
Overall we enjoyed it very much, staff were lovely were great
The property is situated in beautiful grounds with walks and the abbey ruins close by. It is a beautiful building located close to Melrose & St.Boswell both lovely to visit. The hotel is very traditional and comfortable and our room was very spacious.
I didn’t realise it was a pet friendly hotel and therefore lots of dogs staying. I think that should be made more obvious.
The bathroom needed updating and decorating. It wasn’t clean enough for me and the coffee/tea area was inadequate. No mugs!
Breakfast was mediocre I asked for an omelette and was kindly refused! The bar meal average and expensive.
15.06.2026
Great place
Beautiful property and grounds in a beautiful location. Staff were very friendly.
14.06.2026
A lovely break in a beautiful location.
It was a nice location to spend a couple of days. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the facilities were good.
Although close to local towns and villages, the roads in and out were narrow at times. There was a good choice at breakfast but I found the full breakfast a bit disappointing.

Lovely to be just by the beautiful abbey & river walks but a rather tired hotel
The setting by the river was beautiful

A nice relaxing place, with great surroundings.
Breakfast excellent, room spacious
09.06.2026

Our stay at Dryburgh Abbey far exceeded our expectations.
The breakfast was fantastic and the breakfast room was beautiful.

A few days of food and comfort better than at home.
Very well appointed room and bathroom: spacious, pleasant outlook. Good bed. Comfortable chairs. Good lighting.
Attentive, well-trained staff. Good service in the restaurant. Good, varied menu and excellent food.
Quiet and scenic.
Not cheap, but worth it.

Fantastic Scottish borders stopover and location
The location was excellent and the evening meal delicious. The lounge area and walks locally so we didn't have to get in the car were fantastic.
The bathroom clean but very dated.

Not for me!
Positives
Staff, beautiful location, parking.
Negatives
Really tired hotel, our room was mucky. The doors needed washing, the ceiling was full of spiders and the window lock was broken.
All these things should be addressed when the room is cleaned.
We paid £140 B&B and if was not worth it.

A beautifully located country house hotel . With better attention to detail could be superb.
Beautiful location, friendly staff , comfy beds.
A bit disorganised at breakfast service . Rooms not serviced daily.
